Why Lishmoa?

What is Lishmoa’s goal?

If one Jewish child has a positive experience with our curriculum, then we would consider our work to be a success. The work of a Jewish educator never should be taken lightly—we have the power to influence, the power to change, the power to spark, and the power to create leaders. Our underlying passion with the Lishmoa curriculum is the desire to make Jewish children feel good about Jewish learning. To have families seek out and listen to Jewish music. To have synagogues present Jewish musicians in concert to their communities.  To enable Jews everywhere to be able to experience and appreciate the power and spirit of Jewish music.

This theory of change is based on the desire by educators to facilitate a change in the methods and theories of Jewish Education and making Jewish learning relevant in a digital age. The Lishmoa curriculum provides the framework for enabling this change. Lishmoa reaches out to students of all ages with age-appropriate materials- beginning by exposing the young child to the myriad of Jewish children’s music and progressing throughout the child’s development exposing the child to new and different ways of learning through music. The student brings the excitement home and shares with his/her parents—families play the CDs and enjoy the music at home. They seek out additional Jewish music through the Lishmoa website and the sites of our partners. Synagogues bring in the artists as Artists in Residence as congregations and communities can join together through the power of music.
