Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 8, 2026
Lishmoa is a nonprofit project that converts Jewish texts into audio. We believe privacy is a right, not a feature. This policy explains how the Lishmoa browser extension handles your data.
The short version
We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Period.
What the extension stores locally
The extension saves your preferences (playback speed, volume, highlight settings) in your browser's local storage. This data:
Never leaves your device
Is not accessible to us or any third party
Can be cleared at any time by removing the extension
Network requests
When you use the extension on a supported text page, it fetches audio files and timing data from our content delivery network (cdn.lishmoa.org). These requests are standard web fetches — we do not attach cookies, tokens, or identifiers of any kind. Our CDN does not log individual requests.
What we do not do
We do not collect personal information
We do not use analytics or tracking
We do not use cookies
We do not serve advertisements
We do not sell, share, or monetize any data
We do not require accounts or login
Permissions
The extension requests only the permissions it needs:
Storage — to save your local preferences
Host access to sefaria.org — to add the audio player to text pages
Host access to cdn.lishmoa.org — to fetch audio and timing files
Children's privacy
Because we collect no data at all, the extension is safe for users of all ages.
Changes to this policy
If we ever change how data is handled, we will update this page. Given our commitment to zero data collection, we do not anticipate changes.
